What's a groovy tour?

A fun-filled vintage van ride, with expertly curated 60s and 70s music. You will travel in and around Downtown Asheville and based on passenger input we tailor the drive through varied sights and attractions, from the river Arts district, to Grove Park, to funky West Asheville, as well as the many beautiful (and hip!) neighborhoods adjacent to downtown.

Our History

Having lived and worked as a physical therapist in Asheville for 30 years, I found myself, like many other healthcare professionals, overwhelmed and “burning out” as the COVID 19 pandemic ravaged our community. Increasingly, I found myself waking up with the same thought, that I loved what I did but  that maybe it was someone else’s turn to take care of my patients. I decided to open up a new chapter in my life. The idea of operating a groovy bus tour business in Asheville wasn’t a new one, just one that I hadn’t given myself permission to explore as a real business. I think you can understand how “real life “ of kids, jobs, mortgages often put “dreams” on the back burner. 

But I made a decision to follow this long held dream. My wife had seen me look at 1000s of VW buses for sale without buying one and heard endless stories of how much I loved driving the 1972 VW camper I had when the kids were young. Well I finally made the leap, bought a beautifully restored 1974 VW bus and now I am “all-in”.  The “destination” is to develop a successful business, but it’s the journey that lifts my soul everyday and that is everything to me at this point in my life. I am definitely “in the groove” and if you want that same groovy feeling, the Groovy Bus can take you there too..

Achieving a state of grooviness is definitely an “inside” job

It requires one to let go of non- groovy feelings and worries. That being said, being inside a vintage van, listening to groovy music, in the beautiful town of Asheville, will greatly improve your chances of finding your groovy self.

You cant “think” your way into grooviness- the spirit has to move you!

The Groovy Bus has everything you need to get your groove on. Hippie costumes and jewelry for starters and tamborines and shakers to get you movin’ to the groovin’ music. “Let your soul and spirit fly, into the mystic.” (in the words of Van Morrison!)

In and around downtown Asheville as well as various other groovy spots like west Asheville , the River Arts District, the Grove Park and the many hip neighborhoods along the way.

Start to finish our tours are an hour and a half with a least an hour of drive time and a short photo opportunity stop along the way.

Due to safety considerations in general, though particularly because we use 2-point “lap belts, not 3-point seat belts on our vintage buses, children must be 10 years to ride the Groovy bus.

Tickets are $30 for our 1 and ½ hour scheduled tours and can be purchased by clicking the Book Now button. Groups of 4 or more can be arranged by calling Group Sales at 828-630-8790. Prices for these tours vary but for depending on the size and pick-up / drop-off locations the cost may actually be less than individually purchased tickets. See more group information below.

Yes! Reasonable-priced private tours are available to groups of 4-6. Local pick-ups and drop-offs can be arranged Call our group sales at 828-630-8790 and let us customize your trip today!

Non alcoholic drinks are allowed and all we ask is that they be in a container with a lid or a cap.

We offer three discounts

  • Children ages 10-16 years old – 10% discount
  • AARP members – 10% discount
  • Military service/veterans – discount 10%

Please Note: You may cancel your reservation up to 72 hours before your scheduled tour and get a full amount refund. If you cancel 24-72 hours before the hours before the departure date, you will be refunded 50% of your purchase price or you can reschedule your trip. If you cancel within 24 hours or are a “no show”, we cannot refund your ticket price. If a trip is canceled by Groovy Asheville Tours because of bad weather or any other unforeseen reason, we will gladly refund your booking fully.

I, the undersigned, agree to this release of all claims, waiver of liability and assumption of risk (“Waiver and Release”). I waive any and all claims I may have now and in the future, and release from all liability and agree not to sue Groovy Asheville Tours its officers, agents, representatives, employees or tour guides [hereafter referred to as “Staff”] for any personal injury, death, property damage, or loss sustained by me as a result of my participation in the Groovy Asheville Tours due to any cause whatsoever, including without limitation, negligence on the part of Groovy Asheville , its Staff, tour partners, or other participants, or death or injury as a result of war, civil unrest or epidemic. I further agree that if I violate this agreement and attempt to bring suit against any part of parties named herein, that I will be held responsible for attorney’s fees and any costs incurred by that person in defending such action.

I am aware that the tour, in addition to the usual dangers and risks inherent, has certain additional dangers and risks, some of which include: physical exertion for which I may not be prepared and weather extremes subject to sudden and unexpected change. I accept all the inherent risks of the proposed bus tour and the possibility of personal injury, death or property damage or loss resulting there from. I acknowledge that the enjoyment and excitement of the proposed form of tour is derived in part from the inherent risks incurred by travel and activity beyond the accepted safety of life at home or work, and these inherent risks contribute to such enjoyment and excitement, being a reason for my participation. I agree that if I suffer injury or illness Groovy Asheville Tours or its Staff can, at my cost, arrange any medical treatment and emergency evacuation service as it or they deem necessary for my health and safety.

I understand that photographs taken on this tour may only be used for non-commercial or personal purposes. Using photographs for commercial purposes without acquiring permission is strictly prohibited.

Further, I agree at all times during the tour, to abide by and comply with any additional instructions given by my tour guide or any other Staff and I accept that non-compliance may result in injury, death or permanent disability. I understand that non-compliance may result in my removal from the bus tour.

In entering this Waiver and Release, I am not relying on any oral, written nor visual representations or statements by Groovy Asheville Tours or its Staff or any other inducement or coercion to go on the bus tour. I confirm that, by my own free will, I have read and understood the Terms and Conditions of this walking tour and Wavier and Release prior to signing it and agree that this Waiver and Release will be binding upon my heirs, next of kin, executors, administrators and successors.

I agree to grant the sponsors of this tour to a worldwide, royalty-free license to use my photographic, video, or digital likeness solely for promotional, educational, and/or commercial purposes.

As a participant on the tour, I accept full responsibility for my behavior, well being, and health throughout the tour, which may involve a variety of activities, unfamiliar locations, and modes of travel, including but not limited to: stepping into and off of the van/bus. I affirm that I am responsible for my own well being and health during the tour. I agree to hold neither Groovy Asheville Tours, nor its Staff liable in any way should any harm come to me.

Terms Of Use

Groovy Asheville tours, LLC reserves the right to refuse ridership to anyone the driver deems a safety risk to themselves or other passengers based on observed behavior and interactions with passenger or staff. Passengers visibly intoxicated or under the influence displaying unsafe or anti-social behaviours will not be allowed on the bus initially and will be asked to disembark at any point during the tour. There will be no refunds for riders refused or ask to leave the bus during the tour for the reasons above.

Entering and exiting the bus requires a passenger have ability to step onto and off of the bus safely. To this end our bus has a well-secured step to use for this purpose and the driver will assist any passenger requiring such help. Anyone unable to safely board the bus will of course be given a full refund
